NurtureNextGen leads Erin Turbitt and Lizzie Callinan have published an important commentary on a growing issue in paediatric and perinatal genomics. Parents are receiving life‑changing genetic information about their child, yet the psychosocial support around them hasn’t kept pace.

Drawing on findings from Dolling and colleagues, they describe clear gaps in emotional and informational support. These gaps affect parents whose child receives a genomic diagnosis, fathers whose needs are often overlooked, and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

They also outline promising solutions. These include co‑designed digital tools like those in development through NurtureNextGen and training that helps health professionals better support families.

As genomic technology advances, families need support systems that advance alongside it. The commentary offers insights many families will recognise; you can read it here.
