NurtureNextGen is a consumer-led research initiative focused on co-designing a digital tool that supports families of children with genetic neurodevelopmental conditions. Our goal is to provide balanced, evidence-based prognostic information in a way that is clear, compassionate, and practical.
Scroll down to learn about our two core aims and how we partner with parents at every stage of the research process.
Aim one
Work together with families and experts to create a trusted resource that helps share information about genetic neurodevelopmental conditions in a positive and supportive way.
Aim two
Explore how the resource works in real-world settings to make sure it’s practical and useful, and use what we learn to guide future research.
Multi-level co-design across our research
We embed co-design at every stage of NurtureNextGen
Parents as partners
Parents with lived experience have partnered with us in multiple ways, ensuring our resource reflects real needs and values.
Responding to families’ need
Our work builds on research we conducted with parents of children with genetic neurodevelopmental conditions, highlighting the need for clear, balanced prognostic information.
Co-design expertise
Our team brings extensive expertise in co-design research, and our investigators, including parents, health professionals, consumer representatives, and academics, have meaningfully contributed to planning, designing, and conducting the study.
Creative co-design with parents
We use creative arts-based methods such as body mapping and object inquiry to help participants express complex and emotional experiences in ways that go beyond words.
Our Partners
We have partnered with grassroots organisations including advocacy and genetic support groups, as
well as peak body organisations.
